Working Class Movement Library. Card Catalogue, Books & Pamphlets

The Working Class Movement Library contains perhaps the world’s largest collection of books and pamphlets covering all aspects of working class life from the 1790s to the present day. from the rise of the factory system to the 1984 miners’ strike. This microfilm consists of the complete card index to this extraordinary collection, and thus itself provides an important new research tool for social, political and labour history studies.

The Library contains a mass of material on every aspect of Labour history, much of it extremely rare. The topics include: Owenism, Chartism, material on Unionism including the Trades Union Congress, Poor Law Reform, Parliamentary Reform and the Factory Movement. The card catalogue to the collection, recently thoroughly revised and updated, comprises 73,000 index cards and is thus a resource of outstanding value to researchers in the field.
