This historic journal provides an invaluable record of early films and the development of the cinema. Of all the early magazines and periodicals, none is perhaps comparable to The Bioscope in terms of length of continuous publication and general comprehensiveness.
The major items covered by the journal were:
- Important articles on every aspect of the film world
- Feature articles on major technical advances
- Regular descriptions of new inventions
- Regular features on the state of the cinema in many different countries outside the UK
- Long reviews of major films released for general distribution in the UK. These reviews contained full synopses and general evaluations of their quality and suitability
- List of almost every other film released for general distribution
The reviews and lists appeared weekly.
