The Worshipful Society Of Apothecaries Records & Accounts 1606 – 1954
The records of the Apothecaries Society are a particularly engrossing record of the development of medicine but no step was taken without attendant controversy and legal battles. These Papers detail the research undertaken, the sometimes violently differing opinions and the normalisation of initially contentious procedures.
There are records of disputes between Apothecaries and The Royal College of Physicians, The Grocers, The Barber-Surgeons, and there are lists of Distillers and Grocers petitioning Parliament against The Company. There are also letters relating to Apothecaries abusing their trade and the legal process against them. Papers on botanical expeditions and anatomy lectures are included, together with details of chemical laboratories, the Chelsea Physic Garden and catalogues of plants presented to The Society.
